Pantry Ingredients are pantry staples like salt and pepper – items we think you might already have at home. These items will be listed in your Tasty Grocery Bag in the app if they’re needed for a recipe, but are automatically not added to your order. If you’d like to purchase them, simply tap the blue “+” button for that item, and that item will be added to your Tasty Grocery Bag.

Tap the “Swap” button under any item in your Tasty Grocery Bag in the app. From there, you’ll be able to switch to a different brand of the same product. For example, if a recipe calls for rice, and you want a different brand of rice, you can make that substitution directly in the Tasty Grocery bag. However, if a recipe calls for rice, and you want to use potatoes instead, you won’t be able to make that substitution within the Tasty Grocery Bag. Once you tap the “Check out with Walmart” button, you’ll be taken to Walmart where you’ll be able to search for and add potatoes to your order.

Preparation
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Thinly slice the potatoes into rounds about ⅛-inch (3 mm) thick. Submerge in a large bowl of water to keep from browning and set aside.
In a medium pot over low heat, melt the butter. Once the butter begins to foam, add the garlic and cook for 2-3 minutes, until fragrant. Add the flour and stir until flour and butter resemble the consistency of wet sand, creating a roux.

While stirring continuously, add the non-dairy milk, vegetable broth, salt, and pepper and bring to a boil. Stir in the nutritional yeast and continue to cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens. Remove from the heat.
In a medium baking dish, add 2 layers of the sliced potatoes, followed by a layer of the sliced onions. Pour on half of the cheese sauce and spread with a spatula to coat all of the potatoes and onions. Add another 2 layers of potatoes and pour on the remaining cheese sauce.
Cover with a lid or foil and bake for 1 hour. Then, uncover and bake for 10-15 minutes more, until the top is golden and bubbling and the potatoes are tender.
I had to add a little bit of flour to thicken it up and also salt and pepper. This was also a test dish and will be making for Thanksgiving. Thank you Tasty.

These came out great! Per others comments, the sauce needed significantly more flour. I’d say about 2 TBSP more. I kept the potato skins on (out of laziness and for added nutrients), and still tastes delicious!

They taste like real scalloped potatoes! So delicious. At first my sauce wasn’t thick but as it baked in the oven it thickened up. Tip: Make sure you have a big enough pan so when the sauce is hot and bubbling it doesn’t spill over. Tip: if you’re gluten free too, try replacing the flour with corn starch in the sauce.

Delicious! I should have added at least one more potato, and also, in a fan-forced oven make sure you cook around 1 and a half hours.

Tried to substitute buckwheat flour and the sauce didn't really thicken like the video shows, so chickpea flour would probably be better, or another gluten free flour. Still yummy though. Maybe add some Worcestershire sauce to the mix to taste, because I found the sauce a little bland in the end.

Made these for thanksgiving and they were a hit! I suggest using a little more flour to thicken the sauce and it definitely needed more salt. Other than that, this is a great recipe that I will be using again!

I'm not vegan but I love potatoes. I used all same ingredients but substituted the broth with a chicken broth. I also added slices of bell peppers. Added cheese and cilantro upon removing it from the oven. kept it close till I served it. Delicious!

I added an extra tablespoon of flour to make the cream a little thicker - gravy texture. Also used cashew milk. Delicious!
