Making donuts and munchkins from scratch can seem like an intimidating endeavor, but once you go homemade, it’s really hard to go back to store-bought. After you make the dough and let it rise overnight, you’ll cut the donut and donut hole shapes and fry them in a heavy pan. While they rest, whisk together the glaze and either drizzle over the donuts or dunk them in it. Add sprinkles if you want and enjoy your warm, fresh-baked treats — this recipe makes a lot of them!

Pantry Ingredients are pantry staples like salt and pepper – items we think you might already have at home. These items will be listed in your Tasty Grocery Bag in the app if they’re needed for a recipe, but are automatically not added to your order. If you’d like to purchase them, simply tap the blue “+” button for that item, and that item will be added to your Tasty Grocery Bag.

Tap the “Swap” button under any item in your Tasty Grocery Bag in the app. From there, you’ll be able to switch to a different brand of the same product. However, if a recipe calls for rice, and you want to use potatoes instead, you won’t be able to make that substitution within the Tasty Grocery Bag. Once you tap the “Check out with Walmart” button, you’ll be taken to Walmart where you’ll be able to search for and add potatoes to your order.

Take the dough out and knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth. Place the dough in an oiled bowl and repeat with rise overnight in refrigerator.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface until ¼ inch (6 mm) thick.
Cut out the doughnuts and donut holes with a cookie cutter and piping tip.
Melt enough shortening over medium heat to come up just 2 inches (5 cm) up on the side of a heavy frying pan. Heat the shortening to 375°F (190°C)
Fry the donuts and donut holes for 45 seconds on each side, or until golden brown.
In a bowl, combine the powdered sugar, dry milk powder, vanilla extract and hot water until smooth.
Strain the glaze through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any lumps.
Dunk the donuts in the glaze or drizzle the glaze on top.
My friends loved these. For the glaze I used plain milk and took out the water just because it’s easier, and they taste just as good.

make sure the oil isn’t too hot, otherwise it will cook the outside, but the inside will still be doughy:(

Sooo, yes recipe was good. Frying with the oil was difficult, I’m a little worried they might be doughy. They also came out dense, don’t over roll them when you’re cutting the donut shapes. Make one big sheet and cut them all out at once. Aside from that, they taste good, learned from my mistakes and ready to try again.

I would recommend boiling the oil to a lower heat because they burn really quickly.
