Submit your recipenot about the recipe but I read this as “hideous flower tacos” 😂
Someone on here said this was a step too far for vegan buzzfeed eats but this is a real Mexican thing. It’s called tacos de Jamaica and they’re delicious💕
tried this, and i actually loved it 😍 obviously not going to have that ‘meat’ flavour but texture wise it was good, definitely boil your hibiscus flowers until they’re soft 😋😋

I drink hibiscus tea twice a day for medicinal reasons. I’ve accidentally had some of the loose leaves in my tea before. I detest the flavour of the leaves and the tea. I truly think this would be abhorrent to eat. I happily eat the carrot hot dogs and chickpea tacos from buzzfeed tasty, so for me it’s not a meat thing, but this recipe is a step too far.
Boil for 15-20 mins. The longer you boil the less “ tangy” the final product will be. I used more seasoning than called for. Feel free to season with your fav spices. I liked it but, I think it will be even better tomorrow.
it was amazing, the hibiscus flower tasted like meat
I'm just broke and a new vegetarian so I made this with guacamole, spinach, pico de galo and vegan cheese I tried lol.
love it. I use hibiscus water all the time so this is very easy to make just make shure to rinse your flowers throughly so you wont get the sandy texture.
I didn't wait the 2 h (I was f**king hungry) and it turned out awesome anyway.
ProTips: soak overnight (KEEP All H20) Do a SLOW boil. Take All H20 boil with cinnamon then add more h20 to dilute and sugar to liking to have juice. I followed cooking recipe but I added some hickory liquid smoke; gave it a Barbacoa flavor. Topped with cilantro, cherry tomatoes and Persian cucumbers and handmade tortillas! DELICIOUS!!
I don't know if I did it wrong, but the dried hibiscus flowers seemingly had sand in them, so it was not edible. Watch out what you buy. And also don't forget you'll need to prepare more than 2 hours ahead of time for this recipe so the flowers can soak :( I wish people wrote how long recipes take in Tasty.
I didn’t realize that the flowers had to sit for 2 hours until I started (this was for dinner) but I let it sit for 30 mins. It was tangy but super delicious! I added cilantro & a dollop of sour cream to counteract the tanginess. For those who didn’t know, this is a common thing in Mexico, only they sometimes add jicama. They also make other vegetarian tacos
