Submit your recipeUse hot coffee instead of water to make the flax egg and add a teaspoon of instant espresso powder to the mixture as well. I do this with all vegan chocolate based baked goods recipes. And I always let my flax eggs sit for a good 20-30 minutes.
Followed some other tips, so I ended up omitting 2tbs of vegan butter, and 4tbs of sugar. I replaced the water for the flax with coffee, letting it sit about 20 minutes. In the end the brownies came out absolutely delicious!
I would say that if you haven’t worked with vegan butter and you don’t know how to work with it, you could just use coconut oil.

Could definitely do with a tablespoon or two less butter, as they were very greasy
I used coconut oil instead of vegan butter and coconut sugar instead of regular and they turned out really dry. I realize that I deviated from the recipe so I’m leaving this tip as a cautionary tale.
2 things I’ve found that has worked out great for this recipe: 1- used instant coffee (about 2/3 a teaspoon) added to the 6tbsp of water to hydrate the flax 2- Used coconut oil and applesauce instead of butter. I subbed out the butter for 1/4 cup of applesauce and 1/4 cup of coconut oil and it came out absolutely fudgey and delicious! Not greasy at all!
I made it, and it turned out delicious!!! (I also cut it lol before eating) I recommend giving it 35 minutes then let it cool and do not touch for 10-15 minutes. Also add a little less then 1/2 cup of butter!!
I found this recipe when I was looking for a dairy-free brownie recipe, so I subbed out the flax eggs for two whole eggs (making them not vegan), the vegan butter for canola oil, and I added in white chocolate and dark chocolate chips. Overall, the flavor wasn’t overpowering, just lightly sweet, but they were nice and fudgy, perfect for a small snack!
after 30-35 mins my brownies were still kinda soft so a longer baking time might be better! also, cut down on the sugar, especially if the chocolate you’re using is already quite sweet. i followed the tips for reducing the quantity of vegan butter & my brownies came out without being too greasy :)
Very easy to make and delicious!! I took someone’s tip and used hot coffee for flax eggs instead of water. Great tip thank you. I substituted coconut oil for the vegan butter and agave for sugar. My only tip I would have is using less salt. For me it was a little too salty, but that’s just my opinion :)
Less sugar and butter in my opinion
put less butter because they turn out greasy
