Dum Adai (South Indian Traditional Tart)

Ingredients

for 20 servings

  • 1 ½ cups semolina (185 g)
  • ½ cup plain flour (65 g)
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup ghee (115 g)
  • 1 ½ cups thick coconut milk (360 mL)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (220 g)
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom powder

For Greasing:

  • ghee
  • plain flour

For Garnishing:

  • 10 cashews, sliced
  • 10 pistachios, sliced

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven at 180°C for 10 mins.
  2. Soak semolina and plain flour in coconut milk for 2 hours.
  3. After 2 hours, mix powdered sugar, egg, ghee and cardamom in the soaked coconut milk with semolina and plain flour. Mix well with a spatula and make sure there are no lumps.
  4. Grease the egg tart mould with some ghee and sprinkle it with a little bit of plain flour. Then, pour the batter into the tart moulds.
  5. Bake at 180°C for 25 mins.
  6. Let cool and serve.
