Mulled Sangria

Ingredients

for 6 servings

  • 1 cup
    simple syrup (336 g)
  • 3 whole star anises
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 cup
    brandy (240 mL)
  • 2 cups
    orange juice (480 mL)
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 lime, sliced, plus more for garnish
  • 1 bottle red wine, spanish red wine, such as Rioja

Preparation

  1. In a large pot over medium-low heat or a slow cooker, combine the simple syrup, star anise, cinnamon sticks, brandy, orange juice, orange, lemon, lime, and red wine.
  2. Stir well, cover, and simmer over low heat for at least 20 minutes, until warmed through.
  3. Ladle the sangria into mugs and garnish with lime wedges.
