Shrimp Creole

Ingredients

for 1 serving

  • ⅛ teaspoon salt, and more to taste
  • ⅛ teaspoon baking soda
  • 5 oz shrimp (300 g), peeled and deveined
  • ¾ teaspoon oil
  • ½ yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 celery, sliced
  • ½ bell pepper, sliced
  • ½ tablespoon tomato paste
  • ¼ can crushed tomatoes
  • ½ teaspoon cajun seasoning
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground red pepper
  • ½ tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ cup water (60 mL)
  • black pepper
  • 1 ½ green onions, sliced

Preparation

  1. Mix ⅛ tsp salt and baking soda in a bowl. Place shrimp in bowl and mix to coat. Set aside for 10 minutes.
  2. Next, heat oil in a pot over medium-high heat. Add yellow onion, celery, and bell pepper. Cook until softened, about 4-5 minutes. Add tomato paste and cook until darkened, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Add tomatoes, cajun seasoning, ground red pepper, worcestershire sauce, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium- low and simmer covered for until thickened, about 3-5 minutes. Season to taste with salt and black pepper.
  4. Add shrimp and cook until pink, about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Top with green onions and serve warm.
