People Share Their Unique Holiday Traditions And Some Are Definitely Steal-Worthy

Whether you celebrate with your friends or family, traditions make the holidays even merrier! Create new traditions and celebrate the old with Walmart.

In honor of the most wonderful time of the year, we asked the BuzzFeed Community to share the holiday traditions they cherish. Here are some of their responses:

1. "For the last four years my family and I have done a gingerbread house competition."

"Everyone brings frosting, candy, and goodies to share, then we put on some holiday music and get creative! I love this tradition because it's a fun way to get everyone around the table and it's always hilarious to see what some people end up building. My dad is a painter and contractor so his houses are always the winner! We have even carried the tradition over to Halloween and do a haunted cookie house competition." —Alex S. 

2. "Every year at Christmas dinner, my family has a huge game of bingo, where each round you get a prize."

"But the best is saved for last, and the final round you can win the Prizé Grandé, but you don't know what it is. These Prizé Grandés have included a golden gorilla statue, a dining set of movie quote plates, and a two-foot tall pepper shaker. Obviously, it gets very competitive every year!" —Maya H. 

3. "My family always has a big after-Thanksgiving breakfast."

"Our holiday tradition is to have turkey hash, liver pudding, and grits for breakfast the day after Thanksgiving. It's a great way to get rid of the leftover Thanksgiving turkey and gives us another excuse to come together." —Elyce 

4. "On Christmas morning we have a scrambled egg competition."

"One year my mom and dad made two different egg dishes for our annual Christmas brunch. This turned into a healthy competition, which grew into a family-wide scrambled egg competition the next year. This is now a yearly tradition where everyone makes their own egg dish and we all vote on our favorite. We get very into it, and sometimes there is even sabotage...but it's always fun! " —Jason W. 

5. "My family follows the Latino tradition of eating 12 grapes in the last hour before the new year."

"You're supposed to make a wish before eating each grape." —Maria L.

6. "My family hosts a GIANT annual Christmas party, complete with a festive dress code and menu."

"Each year, a different person in my family hosts the party and picks a theme. It's usually a holiday movie. And we go ALL OUT! You have to dress up in a costume and bring food or drink that goes with the theme chosen that year." —Janet M. 

7. "My friends and I get together every year before Christmas and for a tea party."

"Someone different hosts each year and they are in charge of the tea sandwiches, while guests bring their favorite pastries, treats, and teas. We also wear cozy pajamas and do an ornament exchange after." —Julianne S. 

8. "We eat roast beef for Thanksgiving instead of turkey."

"Why? Because my grandmother didn't like turkey, so whenever we got together at her house, we'd eat roast beef. We'd also have to stand up and tell each other what we're thankful for. I'd always thank my grandmother for the roast beef."  —Clarence B. 

9. "Our town has a trolley that takes you by some of the best Christmas light displays."

"They serve hot cocoa and apple cider to keep you warm. My family has done this every year since I can remember." —Tessa L. 

10. And finally, "I always make chocolate pecan pie for my friends before Thanksgiving."

"My friends do a big "pre-Thanksgiving" the weekend before actual Thanksgiving. It's a mix between a cozy, traditional Thanksgiving dinner and a raucous house party with 30–40 people. I'm one of the few Southerners who attends this pre-Thanksgiving (which is not in the South) and I always make a chocolate pecan pie from my home state of North Carolina. I am not a great cook or baker, but once a year everyone raves about this pie, and it for sure inflates my ego for a weekend. It also makes me really grateful for the many friends who are eager to have me with them each year." —Brian B.
