Spiked Hot Apple Cider

Ingredients

for 20 servings

  • 1 gal apple cider (4 ½ L)
  • 4 cups non-pulp orange juice (960 mL)
  • 4 earl grey teabags
  • 3 cinammon sticks
  • 2 packets mulling spices
  • 3 whole star anises
  • 1 fresh ginger, 2-in (5-cm) piece, peeled
  • 1 orange, sliced into rounds
  • 1 apple, sliced
  • 2 cups whiskey (480 mL)

Preparation

  1. In a large pot over high heat, add the apple cider, orange juice, tea bags, cinnamon sticks, mulling spice packets, star anise, peeled ginger, sliced oranges and apples. Let it come to a boil then turn down to low, cover with a lid, and let simmer for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Strain out the ginger and star anise.
  3. Add one shot of whiskey into a mug and pour, warmed, into the mug.
  4. Garnish with optional cinnamon sticks, orange slices, etc.
  5. Serve.
