14 Unconventional Thanksgiving Side Dishes Everyone Will Love

Try something new this year!

Alice Yoo/BuzzFeed

I'm sorry turkey, but sides are the best part of Thanksgiving.

And sure, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and green beans are all delicious, but there are so many other side dishes you can make! We rounded up 14 of our favorite non-traditional sides to help change things up this year.

1. Garlic Butter Hasselback Potatoes

Pro tip: To get the perfect slits without cutting all the way through the potato, cut them in a deep spoon or ladle so the edges stop the knife from cutting all the way through. Get the recipe.

2. Jalapeño-Cheddar Corn Pudding

Katie Aubin/Alexis Deboschnek/BuzzFeed

Feel free to use only one jalapeño instead of two if spicy food isn't your favorite. It'll give this pudding a lovely flavor without a ton of heat. Get the recipe.

3. Roasted Mushrooms With Browned Butter, Garlic, and Thyme

Mushrooms + thyme + garlic + brown butter = the most delicious Thanksgiving side dish you can imagine. Get the recipe.

4. Apple Hazelnut Stuffed Acorn Squash

Part sweet, part savory, these stuffed acorn squashes make the perfect vegetarian side. Get the recipe.

5. Maple Roasted Carrots With Tahini Yogurt

If you can't find small carrots, just slice large carrots in half lengthwise. (And if they're really big, just cut them in half one more time.) Get the recipe.

6. Crispy Roasted Rosemary Sweet Potatoes

Although this recipe may look complicated, it's actually made with just five ingredients and in no time at all. The hardest part will be placing the slices in a spiral pattern, which is actually pretty fun. Get the recipe.

7. Roasted Pumpkin With Feta and Honey

Salty feta cheese is the perfect thing to balance the sweetness of the pumpkin and honey — so don't be skimpy with it. Get the recipe.

8. Creamed Brussels Sprouts

This cheesy Brussels sprouts dish might just be the most decadent way to eat your veggies — and it just happens to be make-ahead friendly, too! Assemble it the day before and just pop it in the oven when you're ready to eat. Get the recipe.

9. Wild Mushroom Bread Pudding With Sausage and Gruyère

Because savory bread pudding > stuffing any day. Don't @ me! Get the recipe.

10. Cheddar Jalapeño Cornbread Drop Biscuits

Using store-bought cornbread mix makes these biscuits a cinch to throw together. Get the recipe.

11. Hasselback Butternut Squash

Because potatoes aren't the only veggie that should be hasselbacked. Get the recipe.

12. Cider-and-Bourbon-Glazed Shallots
